Meet Amy.

Painted Heart Body Art’s heart and soul.

Amy Lee has been studying body art since 2010, after the life-changing experience of receiving henna for the first time and knowing within 24 hours that this was work that she needed to be doing. It has been a long slow journey while also building a family. At first henna was just a hobby but over time and becoming more and more involved with the community it became a full-time passion and her life’s work. Early on Amy found that marking the body with intention was a sacred act full of magic and power for the recipient, and it was a gift to get to participate with clients in such profound ways. Over the years of practice and study, her love of pattern work unfolded and she found her own voice in the work. Eventually Amy began to experiment with a second plant-based ephemeral art, Jagua, and new larger body pieces began to come out. In late 2016 Amy began to also receive tattoos. Every time she would sit for a new piece she did so with great intention, and it made sense over time that maybe the work that she was already doing with her community could cross-over into permanent tattooing as well. In the summer of 2019 she began her tattoo apprenticeship under the guidance of friend and mentor Paul Foertsch. Apprenticing through the 2020 pandemic was a challenge, but while still learning and expanding, Amy is now a licensed tattoo artist. Amy is based in Bellingham, WA with her children and cats, seeking to create a positive life and to bring a little goodness to everyone who sits for her.
